Led 1/2 Primary
$30

Led class of abridged version of Ashtanga’s Primary Series. This practice is taught with traditional vinyasa count as it sets the pace for dynamic, energetic practice. In led classes, we
learn about “cleaning up” our Mysore practice. It combines deep, audible breathing (ujjayi), bandhas (internal energy locks) and drishti (visual focal points) in specific sequences of asanas linked by breath. This is a challenging and evenly-paced class that is great for all levels.

1:30 – 4:00pm
Asana Lab and Transitions
$45

Asana Lab

In class, we don’t always get our questions answered on what we are and are not doing. Sometimes a posture seems ridiculously impossible, while others may seem like a walk in the park. This workshop is designed mostly around the curious minds of the students. Here, each student will have the opportunity to present an asana (posture) that they’ve been working on or one that is coming up in the series. We will deconstruct the pose and then piece it back together with proper alignment, modifications, and subtle adjustments.

Transitions in Yoga

The Ashtanga system is full of beautiful transitions, both simple and complex. Every time we move we are making a transition by connecting one idea to the next. The question here is, do you pay attention to them? There are 7 major transitions we will focus on in this workshop. Transitions show us the relationship between the foundation of an asana and all the ideas that support it. They help us to gauge the progression of our practice when we are flowing through the vinyasa from basic to challenging by the fluidity and grace of our actions. In the beginning, we’re simply trying to figure things out, so it might not look as smooth just yet. Learning basic anatomy, strength exercises, as well as correct breathing techniques, will help you to understand the backbone of the practice. This will give you insight on how to connect the dots as you continue to weave postures together throughout the practice

Lecture: Yamas and Niyamas – Beyond Asana
$45

Everyone who practices Ashtanga Yoga should eventually know these like the back of their hand. Yamas and Niyamas, the first 2 of the Eight Limb Path of Patanjali Yoga, talks about nonviolence, truthfulness, non-stealing, abstaining, non-attachment, cleanliness, contentment, discipline, self-study, and surrender. These are not rules or religious codes, more or less, guidelines we should follow as we walk the middle path of yoga. Join me for lecture and open discussion as we go beyond the asana. Taking our learning one step further broadens our perspective of why we practice. Explore these moral codes of conduct and apply them to how we interact with the external and internal world.
